The journey of the Colour of Hope project in Kolkata, led by the Mitrobinda Ghosh the founder, is a story of resilience, sacrifice, and unwavering hope. What began as a humble effort to teach three street children on the pavements has grown into a transformative mission, now nurturing 40 children in South Kolkata alone. The initial struggle was daunting—convincing parents, battling societal indifference, and navigating severe financial constraints. Many parents, entrenched in poverty, viewed education as a luxury they couldn’t afford, prioritizing immediate survival over long-term change. Mitrobinda had to fight against these mindsets, often standing alone, armed only with her vision and determination.
The financial challenges were equally overwhelming—intially there were no funds, no resources, and no guarantees. Yet, despite these hardships, she continued, driven by the belief that education could break the chains of poverty and give these children a future filled with dignity and opportunity. Today, Colour of Hope has become a sanctuary for 40 children in Kolkata, providing them with a day shelter home where they receive not only education but also love, care, and nutritious meals. This shelter symbolizes the triumph over every obstacle and serves as a beacon of hope, proving that even in the face of adversity, dreams can take flight.
Among the three street children who one has already achieved a remarkable milestone—passing the Madhyamik examination last year, a feat once unimaginable for a child living on the streets. The other two are preparing to appear for the Madhyamik this year, their eyes now filled with dreams of a brighter future with many more.
At Color of Hope, we have had the opportunity to organize multiple one-day workshops with various instructors, but we are fortunate to have three dedicated teachers who take regular classes for our children. Sneha and Namita, two compassionate undergraduate students, conduct classes for three girls who are preparing for their board exams, even though they have to do so on the footpath due to lack of shelter. Meanwhile, Sumana Ma'am, our music instructor, takes weekly classes and is passionate about teaching our children. We are grateful for their commitment and contribution to the education and growth of our children.

At Ramdhanu Social Welfare Society, we believe in practicing what we preach. Our commitment to inclusiveness and equality is reflected in our support of children like Paridhi and Prabhas, who both face unique challenges.
Paridhi, who has Down syndrome, was unfortunately rejected by mainstream schools despite her mother’s efforts to enroll her. However, she has found a welcoming and supportive community in Ramdhanu. Paridhi actively participates in all of our projects, classes, and workshops, showcasing her intelligence and lovable nature.
Meanwhile, we have been caring for Prabhas since the beginning of our journey. Prabhas is a street child who is autistic and unable to communicate, talk, or walk. We provide him with medical assistance and nutritious food, ensuring that he receives the care and support he needs. Prabhas’s mother, Sonali, who works as a house help, is also involved in our “Wellbeing Of Women” project.
At Ramdhanu, we firmly believe that all children deserve love, care, and the opportunity to thrive. Through our Color Of Hope project, we are committed to creating a safe and inclusive environment for all children, regardless of their abilities.
At Ramdhanu, we believe that every child deserves access to education, regardless of their background or socioeconomic status. That’s why we’re proud to have our youngest member, Abherii, leading the way with her special project, Chuti Didir Pathshala.
Chuti, also known as Abherii, has been actively involved in our projects and recently started teaching street children during the pandemic. Her passion for education and empowering young minds led her to start Chuti Didir Pathshala, where she provides education and care to small children who cannot afford preschool.
We believe that every child deserves a chance to learn and grow, and Chuti Didir Pathshala is just one way we’re working to make that a reality. Through this project, we hope to inspire and empower young minds to reach their full potential and pave the way for a brighter future.
