Dreams into Reality: The Story of Building Toilets in Murgaboni

“Dreams are not what you see in your sleep; they are the things that don’t let you sleep.” This quote perfectly encapsulates the journey of Tollygunge Ramdhanu Social Welfare Society’s recent initiative in Murgaboni, Birbhum. What began as a pressing need turned into a mission to bring about lasting change in the lives of the villagers.

During a routine visit to the tribal village of Murgaboni, I experienced firsthand the dire state of sanitation facilities. The existing structure, if it could be called that, was in shambles – broken and utterly unhygienic. It was then that I realized the urgent need for proper sanitation. This realization was further reinforced when my colleague, Antaripa, stayed in the village for a few nights and faced similar challenges.

Determined to make a difference, we decided to construct proper toilets in the village. As the saying goes, “When you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it.” Our dream of providing proper sanitation facilities was made possible thanks to the unwavering support of Mahua Menon Di. Her constant encouragement and assistance turned our vision into reality.

On May 11th, 2024, we inaugurated the newly constructed toilets under our “Beyond Boundary” project. The colorful, hand-painted structures are not just functional but also symbolize hope and dignity for the villagers. These facilities will significantly improve the hygiene and health standards in Murgaboni, especially for women and children.

This initiative is a testament to the power of dreams and determination. It highlights how a small idea, when fueled by passion and support, can bring about significant change. We are grateful to everyone who believed in this project and helped make it possible. The journey does not end here; it is a step towards a future where basic necessities like sanitation are accessible to all.

Through this project, we aim to continue empowering the community of Murgaboni and beyond, breaking the cycle of poverty and building a foundation for a better tomorrow. As we celebrate this achievement, we are reminded that every dream, no matter how big or small, can come true with determination and support. Together, we can create a world where everyone has access to the basic necessities of life and the dignity they deserve.
